Our K9 unit provides assistance to officers and citizens 27/7, 365 days a week. We apprehend over 1200 criminals and locate hundreds of pounds of narcotics on a yearly basis. The unit also conducts dozens of bomb sweeps yearly at most major sporting events, schools and other public functions.
To maintain and sustain this high standard of response we need to have funds to keep our officers and dogs safe, equipped and trained. Our Police Department does assist us with funding a great deal but the budget is stretched extremely thin. To make up the short falls through the years the Canine Unit established a 501 C tax deductible non-profit association in 1997. Any donation you make to the the association is tax deductible.
These donations has enabled us to provide one of the best canine units in the nation to the citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County. Any gift big or small is greatly appreciated and will be put to valuable use. From all of us at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, we tank you for your support.
IMPD’s Canine Section is one of the largest in the country. It includes K9 teams trained in felony apprehension, narcotics detection, and explosive detection.
